Myrtle Stedman was born in Chicago, IL, in 1885. She
started singing at an early age and appeared to be headed for
a career in light opera having appeared in numerous shows. However,
she abandoned her singing career in favor of the movies starting
out at Selig in 1912. Married to actor and director Marshall Stedman,
she was also the mother of actor Lincoln Stedman. Her career at
Selig began with numerous shorts supporting such stars as Tom
Mix and William Duncan in their early days. A very active actress,
the AFI Catalog of Featurre Films lists her as appearing in over
75 silent features. She contnued to be very much in demand, however,
as she moved to character roles in the late 1920's and into the
1930's. She appeared in over 30 films during the 1930's before
passing away of a heart attached at age 52 in 1938.
