"Dark Star:
The Untold Story of the Meteoric Rise and Fall of the Legendary
John Gilbert"
by Leatrice Gilbert Fountain (St. Martin's Press, 1985,
287 pages.)
This biography is somewhat different in that it was
written by the subject's daughter. However, Fountain gives a candid
and objective account of her father's life - his shortcomings
as well as his successes. Although few, her personal reminisces
about her father are charming, and, of course, her mother, Leatrice
Joy, knew Gilbert better than anyone. She is quoted extensively
throughout the book, too. Written well - holds the reader's interest.
