RIDERS OF THE PURPLE SAGE (1925)
Starring Tom Mix
PHOTOPLAY
May, 1925

We were looking forward to this latest Tom Mix vehicle, but for some reason or other we were disappointed. Perhaps we expected too much. The popular novel by Zane Grey had plenty of action but not so with the picture. Of course Tom can always be relied upon to prove himself the hero and save a young lady, who in this case happens to own a ranch and is robbed by rustlers. Fine photography.

RIDERS OF THE PURPLE SAGE (1925)

William Farnum starred in this picture seven years ago -- a picture which also bore the Fox trademark. Being a worthy type of Western story, written by Zane Grey, it was considered substantial enough to make again. And so Tom Mix carries on here in the role of a Texas ranger who eventually exacts vengeance against the kidnappers of his sister and the rustlers of his sweetheart's cattle. After a slow start, it flashes a healthy line of action. Exteriors are typical Western -- Mix and his company (not forgetting Tony, the horse) performs well against them.
